Fred Lawson (1888-1968)
A well known and accomplished landscape painter. Fred was born at Yeadon, near Leeds. He studied at Dewsbury and Leeds Schools of Art. Exhibited at the R.A., R.I. and at numerous exhibitions of Yorkshire artists.  Most of his work depicts the scenery and life of Wensleydale. One of the most fluent and spontaneous water-colourists of his time, he was particularly adept at capturing autumnal tints.  He was the founder and leading member of the Castle Bolton group of artists. This picture is of a local village - Middleham.  In pen and ink, signed, titled and dated June 18th 1951.
